Jim
resides in Ansonia CT with his wife Carol. He started his musical
training in his hometown of Salineville, Ohio with the Salineville High
School marching band. There, he was given a choice between playing
the tuba and the bass fiddle and the decision became an easy one when the
band director's wife inadvertently drove over the bass fiddle! A
highlight of his high school band years was being a member of the Salineville
band during which it was conducted by guest conductor, Paul Lavalle of
Cities Service Band fame.
Between
shift changes at Pratt-Whitney, North Haven, CT, Jim managed to devote
12 years of time playing with the Stratford Community Concert Band and
has fond memories of past members: Art Church, Frank Furman, and the "Senior"
Dr. Sherman.
In
years past, he was surprised by a visit from his former high school band
director, Richard Howenstine, who was pleased to hear that Jim was still
"tooting the tuba". |
