Jackie,
our band member of the month is married to Tom, the tubist in the band.
They have three children; two boys and a girl. They also have a grandaughter
by their oldest son and his wife.
"My
instrument is Clarinet and has always been good to me", says Jackie.
"I had the good fortune to pick it up at the age of 12 while in Junior
High School. My instrumental teacher traveled up to the High School
with me where for four years, I was principal player of our high school
band. I attended college but decided not to major in music, but had
the desire to teach. I received my BS degree in Physical Education
in 1967. I have always loved music and my husband Tom is a musician
also which made it very easy to continue playing in many bands during the
31 years we have been married. Presently, I am a member of the Connecticut
Symphonic Band, Westport Community Band, Stratford Community Concert
Band and the South Beach Fire Department Band. I continue to love
and enjoy playing. Monday nights, however, are a little more special
to me because I sit next to my music teacher who also plays the clarinet." |
