Richard
Fay was born in Boston, MA where he spent most of his childhood.
At the age of 6, he joined St. Brendan’s CYO marching band and studied
percussion instruments with instructors from the George Lawrence Stone
Music Studio. He marched in his first band competition at the age
of 8. He remained in the percussion section at St. Brendan and joined the
Woodrow Wilson Junior High School concert band at the age of 11. During
the end of his years in Junior High School, Richard’s family moved to Danbury,
CT. He joined the Danbury High School Marching Band and marched with
AFL-CIO sponsored drum corps in the Hudson Valley Drum Corps Circuit. In
the Hudson Valley Circuit, he studied with the renowned late percussionist,
Kurt Golding.
After
high school, he attended Western CT State University and received a B.S.
in Elementary Education in 1964. He began teaching in the Bridgeport Public
School System and currently serves as a math specialist at Columbus School.
In 1970 he earned an M.S. degree in Secondary Education with a concentration
in American Studies at Western. In 1987 he completed the 6th year
professional certification requirements at St. Joseph’s College. Since
his high school years, Richard has performed with the following groups:
Valley Community Concert Band, Stratford Community Concert Band, The Big
Band Sound, Derby High School Performing Arts Ensemble, The Derby High
School Jazz Band, The Second Company Governor’s Foot Guard, Central High
School Performing Arts Ensemble, University of Bridgeport Summer Performing
Arts Ensemble and most recently with the American Festival Concert Band.
His membership in the Stratford Community Concert Band has continued for
a quarter century.
Richard
currently resides in Stratford and has a daughter, Allison. She is currently
a vocal performance major at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. |
